Coinbase CFO: Volatility drove Q2 results, but diversifying beyond trading

Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) CFO Alesia Haas said Wednesday that volatility helped the company beat expectations in Q2, but over time it is working on a "product roadmap" that will let it diversify its cryptocurrency client base beyond traders. Speaking to CNBC, Haas called crypto "inherently unpredictable right now," subject to significant volatility. However, she contended that attitudes toward the asset class are changing and different kinds of investors are entering the market. "We're starting to see utility in crypto. We're starting to see people engaging in staking. We're seeing people engage in ... other transaction types," she said. Haas' remarks followed the release of Street-topping results from the company. Earnings and revenue beat expectations, as trading volume and monthly users both rose.
